Drum lessons are practical, energetic and focused on making music from day one. You will develop coordination, timing and technique while playing the beats and styles that made you want to sit behind a kit.
Age guidance: Drums lessons are available from age 7. We will help you judge readiness during the free taster.

There is no fixed route or required musical style. These are the foundations we can shape around your pace, interests and ambitions.
Build coordination
Develop balanced posture, stick control and coordination around the kit without rushing the foundations.
Create a solid groove
Learn beats, fills, timing and dynamics through rock, pop, metal, jazz, fusion and the music you enjoy.

Develop listening, consistency and musical judgement for songs, bands, performances, recordings or optional exams.

Your taster
A 30-minute one-to-one session with no payment details and no obligation to continue.
Regular lessons
The standard lesson is 30 minutes at £20, equivalent to £40 per hour.
Starting age
Drums lessons welcome children from age 7, teenagers and adults. There is no upper age limit.
Lesson format
Individual tuition means the pace, repertoire and feedback can be built around the student.

Instrument and equipment
You do not need to own a drum kit before your free taster. Tell us what equipment you have access to and we will confirm what is available for the session before recommending any purchase or home-practice setup.
Practice between lessons
Useful practice can include sticking, coordination and rhythm work as well as time on a full kit. Your teacher will shape this around the space and equipment available at home.

DRUMS LESSON FAQ
Are drums too loud to practise at home?
Not necessarily. Practice pads and electronic kits can reduce volume considerably. Your teacher can suggest exercises that match your home setup.
Do I need my own drumsticks?
Not for the free taster unless we confirm otherwise. If you continue, your teacher can recommend an appropriate pair rather than asking you to guess.
Can I learn songs as well as exercises?
Yes. Technique and coordination are taught so that you can use them in real grooves, fills and complete pieces of music.
Lessons take place at 18 Wakefield Road, Pontefract, WF8 4HN. Parking is limited beside the building. Apollo is upstairs and currently has no step-free access or accessible toilet. Please contact us before booking if you would like to discuss access.
